Dr. Carnes received a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Texas in 1983 and completed a combined Pharm.D. and residency program at the University of Utah in 1988. She completed a Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy fellowship at the Ohio State University in 1991 and received a Ph.D. in Pharmacy and Veterinary Clinical Sciences form the Ohio State University in 1996. She held research and teaching positions in Medical Biochemistry and Pharmacy from 1996 to 1998 at the Ohio State University. In 1998 she was appointed Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at the Ohio State University. In 1999, she was named the Faculty Member of the Year by the Ohio State University Doctor of Pharmacy Class of 1999.
