We have a shared mission to provide patients new hope by forging discovery through collaborations between curious investigators with engaged physicians.

Who we are

We are a team of over 600 faculty, staff, and trainees representing eight University Colleges and 26 different departments dedicated to discovering new diagnostics and treatments for innumerable patients with acute and chronic disease. Our work spans basic molecular and genetic research to large multi-center clinical trials. We have over 30 million dollars in active annual research funding supporting our research and published nearly 500 research articles this past year. As implied by our name, our teams are working each day to study the causes and treatments for diseases that affect the heart and lung. However, our interests span across medicine with active research teams investigating diabetes and kidney disease, transplant medicine, stroke, skeletal muscle disorders, neurological disease, immune defects, sports medicine, and regenerative medicine.

The research performed in our labs directly contributes to the health of patients in Ohio. However, these discoveries have a ripple effect that impact physicians, investigators, and ultimately patients the world over.

Knowing how important this is, the teams of The Dorothy M. Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute, founded with the support of William D. (Bill) and Jacquelyn L. Wells and the Davis Foundation are constantly searching for new, exciting, and revolutionary ideas that will change the field of medicine.

Hear it in our own words

We need you

We are driven, as individuals and teams, to discover new diagnostics and treatments focused on real world medicine. Additionally, our labs train the next generation of physicians, scientists, pharmacists, bioengineers, geneticists, nurses, and teachers. The breakthroughs that are made each day at The Dorothy M. Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute are in large part to the philanthropic support of our donors. These donations drive our education and research programs.

While we employ a collaborative approach within our walls, we believe that this same concept of collaboration extends beyond the Ohio State campus. Whether it is from an individual, a community, or an organization, each donation received goes directly to support our key mission and plays a critical role in the next discovery.

In realistic terms, donations keep the laboratories within The Dorothy M. Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute up and running. We are grateful for the support of the community to improve the lives of those affected by life threatening diseases.
