Drs. Periannan Kuppusamy (43054) and Jay L. Zweier (43004) were selected by the International Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Society to receive the 2006 Silver Medal in biology and medicine for their research in modern imaging and in vivo electron paramagnetic resonance.

The society aims to promote among an international audience scientific development, discussion and educational programming relating to electron paramagnetic resonance and electron spin resonance.

Kuppusamy and Zweier both joined Ohio State in 2002 and collaborate on several research projects.

Kuppusamy is a professor of internal medicine and biomedical engineering and holds the William D. and Jacquelyn L. Wells chair in imaging research. He also serves as director of the center for biomedical EPR spectroscopy and imaging.

Zweier is director of the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute and holds the John H. and Mildred C. Lumley chair in medicine. In addition to his primary appointment in internal medicine, he holds joint appointments in radiology, biomedical and electrical engineering, and physiology and cell biology. He has published more than 280 peer reviewed articles and has received more than $100 million in individual and programmatic support from the National Institutes of Health and other granting agencies.
