The Eighth Annual Heart Failure Update: Tackling Common Challenges in Heart Failure Management Friday, October 9
The Ohio State University Biomedical Research Tower 460 W. 12th Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43210 According to the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association: Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics 2009 Update, heart failure has reached epidemic proportions in this country and causes more than1 million hospital admissions annually. Advances in medical and surgical management can help to decrease these admissions, as well as provide a better quality of life for patients with heart failure. Nevertheless, end-stage heart failure is a worsening problem with often limited options available for increasing the quality and quantity of life. About 5.7 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with some form of heart failure. The Eighth Annual Heart Failure Update: Tackling Common Challenges in Heart Failure Management will outline the latest strategies in diagnosis and treatment modalities for these patients. Featuring a special lecture, “Mitral Regurgitation and Heart Failure,” by Tirone David, MD, Clinical Division Chief, Cardiac Surgery, University Health Network, Toronto, Canada.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: • Describe common challenges in treating patients with heart failure • Develop an approach to overcome common challenges such as cardiorenal syndrome • Apply disease management concepts to heart failure treatment • Understand the role of surgical therapies in advanced heart failure
