Area of Expertise

Vascular biology/bioengineering, endothelial cell mechanotransduction (signal transduction due to mechanical forces), oxidative stress, antioxidants, molecular mechanisms of blood cell adhesion, thrombosis, inflammation.

Interest and Subspecialty

The Vascular Bioengineering laboratory is focused on determining the role of hemodynamic shear stress and/or oxidative stress in vascular endothelial cell (EC) signal transduction, and the role of cell receptors and plasma proteins in throm¬bo¬sis/inflammation. Current studies concentrate on the role of endogenous reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in the EC dysfunction following flow adaptation/ischemia/re¬perfusion.

Dr. Alevriadou received her PhD in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering & Biosciences Institute, from Rice University, Houston, TX. Following postdoctoral training at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, she joined the Biomedical Engineering Dept. of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. In 2003, she joined the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute as an Associate Professor. She is a core faculty of the Biomedical Engineering Dept. and a member of the Integrated Biomedical Science and Biophysics Programs.
